Global Developmental Delay (GDD): What is it?

Recall the moment when your child said their first words. What about the initial instance when they managed to get up and walk independently? Developmental milestones are these "firsts" and the other practical abilities displayed in the early years of life.

These developmental milestones serve as important markers of your child's progress in terms of their physical, mental, emotional, and social development. Little things like nutrition, environment, and heredity can affect how quickly your child grows.

A 4-month-old should be able to hold objects in their hands. He or she should be able to crawl when lying on their stomach by the time they are eight months old.

He or she should be able to lift herself to a sitting position on their first birthday. These indicators, along with all others, aid in determining how a child's development is going.

However, your kid may have developmental delay, also known as global developmental delay (GDD), if two or more significant areas of development do not appear to progress at a certain age. A young child may experience delays in the following areas:

Cognitive skills: the capacity for thought, learning, and problem-solving

Speech and language abilities: the capacity to utilise, express, and comprehend language

The capacity to use tiny and large muscles in the body is known as fine and gross motor abilities.

Social and emotional intelligence: the capacity to communicate, relate to, and connect with others

Everyday living activities: the capacity to perform routine everyday actions, such as eating, sleeping, and getting dressed
